A Distributed Energy Resource (DER) is a smaller generation unit that is found on the consumers side of the meter. This means that the DER is where electricity is generated at the point of use (i.e. your home), not the point of generation (i.e. a power plant.)

Examples of Distributed Energy Resources are:

  • Rooftop solar photovoltaic units

  • Wind generating units

  • Battery addons/storage

  • Hydro schemes

  • Heating units
